About

This is the story of a group of ordinary people and their extraordinary response to a society in which the less fortunate are so often deprived of life’s greatest, freest gift – the natural world.  The Fields that Heal looks at the terrible impact on family life, especially on children, of this deprivation. When  domestic breakdown, violence and abuse follow, it is children who suffer most, their physical and emotional wellbeing compromised for life. Twenty years ago, seeing the cost to her patients’ physical and mental health, a young GP determined to act. The children’s charity, Dandelion Time, was the result. This book follows the challenges, triumphs and insights on the way, and reflects on their importance for us all.

We proudly launched our book at the Wealden Literary Festival, a festival celebrating the magic of the natural world through literature, arts, crafts and food as well as creative workshops and hands-on outdoor activities. In the enchanting setting of Boldshaves Garden, John Hunter, joined our patron and Best-loved children’s author Michael Morpurgo on stage to a sell-out audience. The talk was hosted by author, Alex Preston. John and Michael discussed Dandelion Time’s story and the benefits of immersing children within nature. It was such a special moment for Dandelion Time!
