Our campaign began on Wednesday 27 November, and we were very lucky to be able to share one family’s experience of their time at Dandelion Time. This video reached an amazing amount of people due to our supporters kindly sharing across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – over 14,100 viewed this story!
Day 1 was so exciting for us all here at Dandelion Time, raising £8,000 of our £30,000 target. The money continued to come in from far and wide and we were so touched by the support for our children and families.
The campaign closed at noon on 4 December with a jaw dropping total of £32,065! Exceeding our target may lead to an award from the Big Give, including further funding.
Overall, the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2018 supported 589 charities raising over £13m!
The Christmas Challenge has been vital to our continued support of children and their families in Kent. Our new Dandelion Time centre will open in 2019, aiming to reach 45 individuals (children and carers) in the first year of operation and increase by 10-15% annually. Referrals will be for those that have experienced trauma, abuse or domestic violence, leading to emotional and behavioural issues. They may have been excluded from school, or involved with social and mental health services. Carers may be struggling to cope with their child’s emotional needs.
Lots of groups came together to fundraise for us. Outset UK held a whole week of fun-draising events! Cakes were high on the list of fundraising activities, the Civil Service Insurance Society held a very successful cake sale, and Advance FM had a Bake Off!
We had a Donation Station at our Christmas Craft Fair, and we would like to thank Endeavour Land & New Homes for sponsoring the event and volunteering to run the Christmas Cafe.
Our new centre will benefit hundreds of children in future years, and we cannot thank you all enough for being part of this success.
