Leave a legacy

Your will is your wish

Your Will is a unique personal document and will give you peace of mind knowing that your final wishes will be carried out. It will ensure that those you love are provided for and is an opportunity for you to help those causes you have supported during your lifetime. Leaving a gift to Dandelion Time would have an invaluable and long-lasting impact on the lives of troubled children and families in Kent. Legacies are a very important and valued income stream for smaller charities like ours, and they help us to sustain what we do and grow further.

Having a child who has suffered trauma and neglect, your world becomes focused on your child. At Dandelion Time they reminded us that we are a family, that we all matter. This may sound cheesy but when the outside world doesn’t understand your struggles, coming to Dandelion was like these big nurturing hands around all of us and a genuine feeling of being understood.”

Making a Will

There are many ways to leave a gift in your Will and we recommend you start off the process by meeting with a solicitor who will be able to give you advice about which way of giving best suits your needs.

These are the most common ways to leave a legacy gift

  • Pecuniary Legacy
Is a fixed sum of money. It is worth asking your solicitors to index-link your donation to ensure the amount you leave keeps its value relative to inflation
  • Specific Legacy
Is a particular named item, such as shares, jewellery or property

A properly written and witnessed Will ensures that your money and possessions benefit the people and the causes important to you. Take a moment to:

  • List everything you could include (in a Will) including property, money and other assets
  • List who you want to benefit (names and addresses)
  • Decide who you would like to be your Executors (usually two people and could include a Solicitor)

Already have a Will?

If you have already made a Will and are happy with the main provisions but wish to make additional gifts you could do so by codicil, a simple way to make specific changes or additions without affecting the earlier provisions.

Suggested wording

I (name) of (address) declare this to be my first codicil to my last Will, dated (date). I give (details of legacy) to Dandelion Time, registered charity number 1136613, Charlton Lane, West Farleigh, Kent ME15 0NY.
