Janet’s Story
At Dandelion Time, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their dedication, compassion, and energy help create a safe and nurturing environment for children and families who need it most. Janet is a session volunteer, working alongside our Therapeutic Team to help prepare and support family sessions. Session volunteers play a vital role in creating the calm, organised environment that allows therapeutic work to happen.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I love seeing the satisfaction and joy children and families experience when they complete an activity together – whether that’s preparing and eating lunch they’ve made themselves, or listening to the giggles and stories that naturally come out of working side by side. It’s really special to see a young person on their first day, and then, after a few weeks of support, watch them find their own way to join in. Every child seems to find something meaningful at Dandelion Time.
What does volunteering mean to you personally?
Being part of this work is good for me too. I’ve always worked as part of a team, and now that I’m retired, being included in such a caring and supportive team feels incredibly rewarding. Spending time in nature with families is a real privilege.
