Meet our Volunteers – Julie

Dandelion Time

04 July 2023

  • How did you first get involved with Dandelion Time and how long have you volunteered with us?

I came to an event & thought what a great place, read about the ethos behind Dandelion Time with its family approach & nature based environment, deciding that when I retired & had more time I would like to volunteer.  I have now been volunteering here just over five years

  • What do you do as a volunteer? Describe a typical session

I don’t think there is a ‘typical’ volunteer session but I am outdoors in the garden Fridays, have some regular animal slots, about to start helping with some family sessions plus getting involved with other areas as needed

  • What do you enjoy most about your role?

Being in a lovely place which is great for your mental wellbeing, meeting lots of new people from different walks of life coming together to share life experiences & skills. It’s also a place to share ideas.  We also have our ‘Friday bake off’ for coffee time!

  • What have been the highlights for you?

Seeing the families and Dandelion Time progress forward.  Learning so much more about gardening through the seasons and caring for the animals both big & small.

  • Any funny moments?

There have been so many funny moments it’s difficult to pick one out as they just happen at random times

  • Any tricky moments?

Escaping animals – thinking donkeys & guinea pigs! Pulling up weeds in the garden only to find out that was not a weed!

  • Would you recommend volunteering at Dandelion Time and why?

I would recommend volunteering here as you will be supported, encouraged and be part of a Team with everyone striving for the same goal plus there are many different areas across the sites to try as a volunteer
